Calling All Creatives! **** STILL TIME TO GET INVOLVED ******

Devon’s multicultural heritage project Telling Our Stories, Finding Our Roots is calling all creatives for its two latest initiatives.

With the help of a team of enthusiastic volunteers led by project coordinators, the trailblazing project aims to bring to light the forgotten or unknown diverse history in the towns of Honiton and Ilfracombe, stories which have often not been recorded but which show the value and richness that different diverse communities have brought to Devon.

These include the contribution of Indian ayahs (nannies), the Romany community, Ugandan Asians and Jewish children forced to flee Europe during the Second World War.

The project started a year ago and by the time it wraps up in December at least eight new archives histories and eight oral histories will have been written up, recorded and be the foundation for new exhibitions, walking tours and educational resources.

Both the new initiatives are centred in Honiton.

Youth Photo Challenge shines lens on Honiton’s multicultural history

This summer we’re challenging young photographers aged 10-19 to shine a lens on Honiton’s rich multicultural heritage in our photo challenge!

Choose locations from the map that highlight the diverse stories uncovered by our volunteers. See what sparks your imagination and take as many images as you like. There’s so much to choose from including Portuguese umbrella makers near Silver Street, Roman coin hoards and the American Donut Dollies by St Cyres Hill, controversial sundials on the High Street by Holland & Barrett and encampments of Romany Gypsies on Bramble Hill.

STILL TIME TO GET INVOLVED!!!
