M–

Syrian

M– is from Syria. He came to Okehampton, after a short period in Lebanon, in 2017. He currently works in a restaurant and lives at home with his wife and children. After leaving Syria because of the war, M– and his family have been supported by the West Devon Safe Haven organisation to adapt to their new life in Okehampton. M– enjoys sitting in the garden in summer and says that:

“My house is open for everyone.”

In his interview, M– discusses his children’s adaptation to life in the UK, his experience of working and living in Lebanon, the lack of transport links in Okehampton, and the process of preserving or losing cultural traditions.
